Law Minister Gurung insists on improvement of consumer rights

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhanraj Gurung, has expressed concerns over consumer fraud in various circumstances.


Inaugurating the second General Assembly of the Federation of Nepali Consumer Protection (FNCP) on Tuesday, Minister Gurung expressed concerned about the continued violation of consumer rights. He added that despite frequent incidences of market monitoring, Nepali consumers continued to fall victim to various unethical marketing practices.

Minister Gurung said improvement of consumer rights has been elusive due to the desire of unscrupulous businessperson to make quick profit in their businesses. He asserted that anyone responsible for violation of consumer rights be brought to the book. He urged the business community to carry out their business activities with honesty and integrity.


Chairmanof FNCP Chandra Saud sought the facilitating role from the government to get the Federation registered at the National Registration.


He demanded the representation of the Federation in all relevant bodies and the establishment of a dedicated high-powered market monitoring team to promote consumer rights.
