Landslides wreak havoc, claim 3 in Lamjung

LAMJUNG, Sept 13: Three people lost their lives due to landslides triggered by incessant rains in Lamjung district on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Atirupa Thapa, 65 and her 10-yaer-old granddaughter Sirisha Thapa of Pallotari of Marsyangdi rural municipality-3 and 46-year-old Bishnu Maya Gurung of ward no. 4 of the same rural municipality, said Hom Bahadur BK, Vice Chairman of Marsyangdi rural municipality.

Police said they have started a search operation since early morning.

The floods have also swept away a house belonging to Jit Bahadur Gurung in Rambazaar while other houses are at risk.

According to locals, landslides swept away three houses at Arkhalebensi, four houses at Rambazaar and three houses in Bhahundanda in Marsyangdi rural municipality.

A rescue team from District Police Office, Khudi Police Post, Bahundanda Police Post, Seema Police Post have been deployed in the incident site.
