Landslides block Baglung-Galkot section of Mid-Hill Highway, settlement at Narethati at risk

BAGLUNG, June 9: The Mid-Hill Highway has been blocked by landslides triggered by heavy rain. According to Him Bahadur Bhandari, spokesperson for Galkot Municipality, the road from Baglung Bazar to Ghodabandhe View Tower and Hatia leading to Galkot has been blocked by landslides.

"Landslides have been reported in some places due to heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday," Bhandari said. "Roads have been blocked since last night. Machines have been installed on both sides to open the road.” He also said that the road might be clear today if there are no more landslides due to additional rain.

Similarly, 35 houses in the Narethati market of Galkot Municipality-2 are at high risk of flooding due to heavy rain. The people living in the two houses that were submerged due to the overnight floods have been shifted to safer places. The playground of the local Mahendra Secondary School has been flooded due to the heavy rain.

According to Bhandari, who is also the ward chairman of Galkot Municipality-2, Mahendra Secondary School is also at risk. He said that Narethati was saved from drowning after using a dozer overnight. He said that work is underway to collect more data.
