TAPLEJUNG, July 10: A massive landslide has blocked Tamor River at Sawadin VDC of the district on Sunday sending waves of fear to people living downstream.

Mitlung Bazaar in Purambu VDC, located upstream from the landslide hit area, is at a high risk due to blockage of the river.

The possible outburst of the artificial lake formed by the landslide could impact two economic centers in Constituency No 2— Hardung and Dobhan and Simwa Bazaar.

Although the water has started gushing out of the artificial lake, settlements are still at a high risk as mudslides are hitting the area frequently, according to teacher Chandra Tamang in Mitlung,

Meanwhile, Acting Chief at District Police Office, Taplejung Inspector Sailendra Kumar Yadv told Republica Online that locals in Hardung and Dobhan have been asked to be cautious.

“Police personnel have been deployed in Mitlung to help locals in moving to a safer place,” he said.
