KATHMANDU, Feb 9: The Ministry of Land Management and Cooperatives has put forth a plan to gradually transform the offices of land revenue and survey into IT-enabled service delivery hubs.

In order to transform the traditional record-keeping and service delivery system into a digital one, the ministry has come up with the plan.

The ministry’s Secretary Dr Damodar Regmi said the ministry has set a target to expand the geo-coded information system and land service center in all land related offices and provide landowners the digital number.

"With the ‘mero kitta’ system in place, land owners can receive their land map from home. Budget crunch has appeared as a big challenge to digitize and archive over 10 million paper documents of the land revenue offices as part of the transformation process," said Secretary Regmi.

He shared that a directive has been issued to the subordinate departments of the ministry to integrate the information system of the land revenue offices and survey department to ensure effective service of land administration in the current fiscal year.

According to him, now the country has a total of 21 land reforms and 110 land revenue offices. Likewise, there are 131 survey offices and seven special survey offices in the country.

Annually, the offices have been raising revenue amounting to Rs 150 billion. Out of the revenue generated, Rs 50 billion remains at the federal level, Rs 60 billion at the local level and Rs 40 billion at province level.
