The family of actor Lance Reddick is taking issue with a coroner’s conclusion on his cause of death, as per the report of Deadline.

Earlier reports linked Reddick’s death to heart disease. But an attorney representing the family is saying that cause of death was not proved by an autopsy and is inconsistent with Reddick’s habits and fitness.

Attorney James Hornstein claimed Reddick was “the most physically fit person I’ve ever known.” He said the actor worked out daily at his home gym, doing extensive cardio and maintaining a strict diet. He said Reddick required “the availability of gym facilities” as a “contractual requirement” when working away from home.

“The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle,” Hornstein said. “On behalf of [Lance’s wife] Stephanie Reddick, the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”

Whether any further action will be taken beyond the statement is unclear.

According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ, the actor, also known for his acclaimed performance on The Wire, died of Ischemic Heart Disease and Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease.

Ischemic Heart Disease, more commonly known as hardening of the arteries, and Atherosclerotic Coronary Artery Disease are typically caused by plaque build up in the arteries.

Reddick, 60, had collapsed in his Studio City backyard when his wife Stephanie found him and called for emergency services.

At the time of Reddick’s death, his spokesperson confirmed that the actor died of natural causes but did not provide further information.

Reddick co-starred with Keanu Reeves in the John Wick films, including the most recent John Wick: Chapter Four. He also was set to appear in the franchise-spinoff pic Ballerina.

TV many credits include Oz and Law & Order: SVU, but his signature role came with HBO’s The Wire, where he played Baltimore cop (eventually commissioner) Cedric Daniels.
