KATHMANDU, Oct 25: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Toshima Karki has urged the home minister to provide incense and mosquito repellent liquid to control the dengue outbreak in detention cells and prisons nationwide.

In a social media post on Friday, MP Karki highlighted the alarming spread of dengue infections across the country, particularly in Kaski, which has recorded the highest number of cases. "Kaski has more than 7,500 dengue infections, with over 6,400 in Pokhara Metropolis alone," she said.

Dr Karki emphasized the lack of health protections for prisoners, noting that they have not been provided with even basic mosquito repellent measures. "I request the home minister to urgently implement dengue control measures and supply incense and liquids to repel mosquitoes in all detention facilities and prisons across the country. Prisoners are citizens too," she said.

Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of the RSP, who was arrested for alleged cooperative funds embezzlement, is currently held in Kaski District Jail. On Thursday, the Kaski District Court granted a seven-day extension for police custody for further investigation.
