Lamichhane to go under the hammer in IPL auction

Kathmandu, Jan 21: Nepal national cricket team player Sandeep Lamichhane has been included in a pool of 578 players released by the Indian Premier League’s official website. Lamichhane is listed as an associate player with NRs 320, 000 base price. The list includes 360 Indian players. The auction will be hosted in Bengaluru on Jan 27-28.

The leg-spinner break into scene after his performances in ICC U-19 World Cup held in 2016. He drew comparisons with legendary bowler Shane Warne. He went to represent for senior national cricket team. He has been a regular member of both U-19 and senior teams since then. He recently picked up three five-wicket hauls in a U-19 tournament held in Malaysia to set new Nepali record of most wickets in a tournament previously held by veteran spinner Basant Regmi. 

Sandeep represented Lalitpur Patriots in recently concluded Everest Premier League in which his team was knocked out in second qualifier by Bhairahawa Gladiators. 

The spinner is currently preparing for ICC WCL Division Two to be held in March in second week of February. 

Fixtures announced for Division 2

The fixtures of ICC World Cricket Champion League Division 2 have been released on Saturday. Nepal is set to face host Namibia in their first match on February 8.

Three grounds of Namibia will jointly host the tournament. Tournament will commences on 8th of February. It will conclude in 8 days and 6 playing days. Three matches will take place in a day in three different venues. Wanderers, WAP and Trustco United will host all the matches. 

Final match of the tournament will take place on 15th February. 

Six teams, Nepal, Namibia, Canada, Kenya and UAE will vie for the top two finish to feature in ICC World Cup Qualifier which is scheduled to be held on March in Zimbabwe. Oman and Canada promoted from ICC WCL Division 3 whereas Kenya, UAE, Nepal and Namibia confirmed their participation by finishing bottom four in recently concluded ICC WCLC 2015-17.
