Lamichhane showcases another stellar performance in CPL

Tops most-economical bowlers’ list

KATHMANDU, Aug 17: Sandeep Lamichhane presented another stand out bowling performance for his side St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in a 47-run defeat against Jamaica Tallawahs at Kingston on Wednesday. 

The 18-year-old picked up two wickets in successive deliveries to round off a four-over spell conceding 21 runs off it.

The leg-spinner from Nepal dismissed Tallawahs opening batsmen K Lewis for 49 runs before trapping Andre McCarthy LBW for golden duck in the first over after the power play. 

Lewis smashed four boundaries and four sixes in his 24-ball stay. Tallawahs eventually racked up 178 runs in 20 overs with New Zealand international Ross Taylor’s unbeaten 51 runs off 35 balls which included two fours and four sixes.

In reply, Patriots was limited to 131 runs for the loss of nine wickets in its 20 overs. Lamichhane, coming in at number eleven, stayed not out on two runs in which skipper Chris Gayle top-scored with 24 runs which included one boundary and three sixes from 25 deliveries.

Upon the completion of first week of the Caribbean T20 extravaganza, Lamichhane is on the top of the most economical bowlers’ list. 

He has conceded 4.54 runs per over in 11 overs he has delivered in three matches so far. 

The list includes the established international spin-stars like Australian Adam Zampa, Pakistani Imad Wasim, South African Imran Tahir, West Indian Sunil Narine, among others.

Similarly, Lamichhane is fifth on the highest wicket-takers’ list with five wickets to his name. 

The list is led by fellow associate sensation Ali Khan from the United States. 

The fast bowler has seven wickets in three matches so far for his team Trinbago Knight Riders owned by Indian movie star Shah Rukh Khan.

Lamichhane’s team Patriots is on the fifth position in the points table with one win and two losses after three matches. 

Similarly, Tallawahs is on the top of the table with perfect record so far.

Lamichhane will play his final two matches for Patriots on August 21 against the bottom-placed St Lucia Stars and Barbados Tridents on August 25 before heading to Malaysia to join the national team to participate in the Asia Cup Qualifiers starting on August 29.
