LAHAN, June 21: Two Indian quacks arrested on the charge of operating unauthorized health clinic in Lahan Municipality ward no 8 have been released without punishment.

Bidyut Roy of Kolkata, Nadiya Thana and his friend Chandan Biswas of the same village were arrested on Sunday on the charge of swindling patients by operating unauthorized 'Nageshwari Chandani Dawakhana' inside the Shivam Medicine Center in Lahan. However, they were released a day later without any action.

They were found selling medicines of piles, hydrocele, sinusitis and several other diseases promising surgery-free cure.

Ganesh Chand, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Area Police Office, Lahan said, "During our investigations, we found that they had not done anything wrong, so we released them Monday."

Shrawan Yadav, a patient from Bandipur, Siraha had visited Shivam Health Center for the treatment of piles. Roy had promised to cure the disease for Rs 60,000 and Yadav said he has already paid Roy Rs 43,000 and has already undergone medication for a month but his condition has not improved. Yadav told police that he would pay the remaining Rs 17,000 only after he is completely cured.

Locals have meanwhile accused the police of colluding with the quacks and releasing them in exchange of kickbacks.

"How can the police feign ignorance about the illegal activity that had been ongoing right under their noses for over a month?" a local pharmacy owner questioned.
