KATHMANDU, June 14: Minister for Labor, Employment and Social Security, Gokarna Bista, has said that decent work, social security and harmonious industrial relations have taken the center stage in Nepal's reform agenda.


Addressing the plenary of the 108th Session of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Thursday in Geneva, Switzerland, Minister Bista said that the current government has initiated multiple policy and legal reforms in the field of labor, employment and social security. “We have introduced a labor audit system that enables enterprises to enhance the compliance to labor laws,” he added.

In his address, Minister Bista also highlighted other recent initiatives taken by the government to establish people's rights to employment and social protection including the Prime Minister Employment Program. “We are also focused on promoting dignity and worth of labor at the grassroots level,” he said. “With a view to improve productivity and living standards of workers, policy measures have been put in place to ensure minimum wages in a timely manner,” he added.


Minister Bista also utilized the plenary session of the ILO meeting to call for global cooperation and partnership for safe, orderly and regular migration. “Migrant workers deserve equal treatment in destination countries.”
