KATHMANDU, Dec 13: Voting to elect Nepali Congress (NC)’s central office-bearers and members under the party’s 14th General Convention has started. Seniormost NC leader Kul Bahadur Gurung is the first one to cast his vote in the election, which has started at the National Assembly.

Although the voting was scheduled to begin at 8AM today, it was delayed due to technical reasons, according to the party's Central Election Committee. It is said the voting was briefly halted due to a delay in the printing of the ballot papers.

Meanwhile, presidential candidates Sher Bahadur Deuba and Prakash Man Singh have also reached the election venue to cast their votes.

As per the statute of NC, election is held for 134 posts of the 167-member central working committee while the party president nominates the remaining 33 members, including the treasurer. Arrangements have been made for 'full body' sanitization for the voters in view of the possible risk of COVID-19. Security has been heightened at the voting station premises.

Foolproof security arrangements have been made as the dignitaries including Prime Minister and party president, the Home Minister and Ministers will also be participating in the voting.

The candidates for the party president, vice president, general secretary, joint general secretary and central member posts are seen campaigning accompanied by cultural tableaus and musical bands asking for votes at the Bhrikutimandap precincts.
