Koshi erosion: Home Minister directive to arrange immediate rescue, relief and temporary accommodation

KATHMANDU, August 3: The Saptakoshi River has eroded Belaka Municipality-1, 2, 8 and 9 of Udaypur. Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand has instructed all the agencies concerned to immediately manage the relocation, relief and rescue of the citizens there after the water flow increased and erosion started.

It is said that the flow of Saptakoshi water has eroded about 50 meters of land. The Ministry of Home Affairs has informed that the work of relocating the citizens of the nearby slums has started.

Home Minister Khand has also discussed with Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka about where to relocate the citizens of the settlements affected by erosion, and how to provide immediate accommodation and relief. Since Minister Dr Khadka's home district is Udaypur, the home minister discussed the matter with him.

Home Minister Khand telephoned Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, Chief Executive Officer of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Anil Pokharel, Chief District Officer of Udaypur Birendra Kumar Yadav, Police Chief of Province 1 Deputy Inspector General of Police Sudeep Giri, Chief of Armed Police Force of Province 1 Deputy Inspector General Kamal Prasad Giri, Udaypur Police Chief Superintendent of Police Bohora, The Udaypur Armed Police Chief , the Superintendent of Police Krishna Adhikari and the Udaypur Chief of the Irrigation Department and instructed them to arrange immediate rescue, relief and temporary accommodation.
