KATHMANDU, August 19: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC, Ward Number 12 is going to construct a new office building. Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya laid the foundation stone of the building at the site of the old office in Teku on Wednesday.

"We had planned to build a new building in the Pachali area that also houses a beautiful garden. However, there was some controversy over the proposed construction of the ward building. We waited some time to resolve the dispute. Otherwise, the ward building would have been already constructed and brought into the use of the office by now,” Mayor Shakya said after laying the foundation stone. “We did not want to get into the dispute. So, we decided to build a new building on the same old site.”

The Ward Chairperson Bikas Dongol informed that although the estimated budget for the construction was 42.5 million, the construction company has agreed to complete it on 32.5 million. According to Prem Bahadur Shrestha, engineer and building designer, the six-storey building will have parking facilities available on the ground floor. There will also be an elevator to make the building disabled-friendly. A meeting hall with the capacity of 60 people will be on the 5th floor. The estimated time for the completion of the building is around 15 months.
