KMC to promote historical Handigaun: Mayor Shakya

KATHMANDU, Nov 19: Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Bidya Sundar Shakya on Thursday said that Rs 10 million has been managed for the promotion and development of the historical and cultural Handigaun area. 

Admitting to the responsibility of the KMC to protect and promote temples, religious processions and festivals taking place in Handigaun, the second old human settlement behind Sankhu in the Kathmandu Valley, Mayor Shakya said an archeological study of the area would take place soon and the foundation stone would be laid for the construction of a house for keeping the special palanquin and the idols of the deities at the temple within a month. The construction cost is estimated to be over Rs 20 million. 

He was carrying out a field inspection of the reconstruction of the historical Dhe:Chhe at Maligaun in KMC-5. The Dhe:Chhe is being built in an ancient style. The Newar community observes Bhai Tika and Mha Puja at the building during the Tihar festival. 

Mayor Shakya was accompanied by Bagmati Provincial Assembly member Narayan Silwal, the then Constituent Assembly member Ratna Gurung and ward chair of KMC-5, Ramesh Dangol during the inspection.
