KMC resumes reconstruction of Sano Gaucharan Stadium with over Rs 180 million investments

The responsibility for the reconstruction has been awarded to Shubha Construction after the agreement was reached at Rs 188.6 million bids, as the tender was called with a cost estimated of Rs 229.5 million.

KATHMANDU, Nov 28: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has initiated the reconstruction of the Sano Gaucharan Stadium from Thursday.


The reconstruction work started after KMC Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol laid the foundation stone.


The under-construction stadium covers an area of ​​18 Ropanis and 1 Aana, with a capacity to accommodate 1,500 people. The responsibility for the reconstruction has been awarded to Shubha Construction after the agreement was reached at Rs 188.6 million bids, as the tender was called with a cost estimated of Rs 229.5 million.

Deputy Mayor Dangol said that the KMC has increased investment in sports infrastructure. “Economic and social development should be taken along with physical construction for balanced development,” she said, “The KMC are going to rebuild the stadium as part of the program to take sports forward with the dimensions of development.”


Similarly, she said that various programs are being conducted to produce athletes from the school level and through this effort, it is expected to identify athletes who can compete representing the nation.


Birendra Prajapati, Ward Chairman of KMC-5, said that the reconstruction of the stadium in the ward will take the local development to a higher level.


The stadium design and cost estimate were prepared by the City Planning Commission and implemented by the Public Construction Department. The playground will feature artificial grass along with a sky drainage system and a boundary wall around it.


Additionally, Ward Chairman Prajapati said that there will be a parking space with the capacity to accommodate 28 four-wheelers and 178 two-wheelers.


The stadium will feature 23 toilets for women and 16 for men on the ground floor. Similarly, it will include a physiotherapy room, three changing rooms for men and women, a first aid room and two team lockers.


A public notice for the construction was issued on April 15.  The selected construction parties were given the mandate on November 10. Shubha Construction, which has been handed the responsibility of the construction, has to complete the work by mid-April, 2026, as per the contract agreement.
