KATHMANDU, April 29: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has directed all institutional (private) schools within its jurisdiction to ensure scholarship distribution for the new academic session 2082 BS.
As per the Compulsory and Free Education Act, 2075 and the KMC Education Act, 2075, schools must provide scholarships to at least 10 percent of students from Grades 1 to 10.

The distribution must prioritize students based on inclusive criteria such as academic merit, economic hardship, disability, gender, caste (Dalit), ethnicity (Janajati), conflict victims, and martyr families.
Schools are required to post public notices regarding scholarships and collect applications from eligible students and parents. The scholarships must be distributed within the first week of Jestha (mid-May).
Only decisions made by the Scholarship Selection Committee, formed under Section 50(3) of the KMC Education Act, 2075, will be recognized for scholarship distribution.
This committee comprises the ward chairperson (or designated member) as coordinator, the school principal, the city’s school inspector or education officer, and a parent representative from the school management committee.
The notice, issued by Education Officer Netra Narayan Adhikari, clearly urges schools to complete the process and distribute scholarships within the specified timeframe.
