Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram, who has been the bowling coach and mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders, will not participate in Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2017 edition due to “professional commitments” and “time constraints”.
According to a press release, the 50-year-old would be unable to continue his role with the team next year.
“Bowling coach and mentor, Wasim Akram will miss the upcoming IPL 2017 season,” said the statement from Kolkata Knight Riders.
“The legendary all-rounder has cited professional commitments and time constraints for his inability to be part of Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming season,” the statement added.
Wasim said he would miss the team’s dressing room environment and wished the team luck.
“I have loved the camaraderie in Kolkata Knight Riders’ team and have enjoyed every opportunity to mentor the highly talented side over the years,” he said. “I am surely going to miss being part of the dressing room but I wish the team continued success.”
