KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The captain of Nepal national cricket team Paras Khadka has been appointed as the brand ambassador of the Expert Education and Visa Services (EEVS), amid a function held in Kathmandu on Tuesday. The Kathmandu-based education foundation has helped more than 300 Nepali students to get acquainted with major universities of Australia for higher studies.

On the occasion, the 30-year-old signed a 3-year-contract with EEVS for an undisclosed fee. 

“I am really thankful for the EEVS team for trusting me. It is a good initiative for cricket players, and I would like to invite other corporate houses to help cricketers and players from other sports as well to support them in their endeavors,” Khadka said. 

The skipper also highlighted the importance of having a former cricketer in the corporate house to understand the situation of cricket players in the country. 

“I know Subash Pradhan, the managing director of Nepalaya International. We played together in ICC U-19 World Cup 2006. Being a former cricket player and now a business personality, he understands the situation of players in our country. I am sure that has helped him and the EEVS to reach the grass-root level of cricket,” Khadka said.

Khadka made a history in the nation’s cricket by becoming the first captain of the national team when it made its debut in One-day International (ODI) cricket. The Nepal national cricket team played its first ODI match against the Netherlands in Amstelveen on August 1. Nepal drew the two-match series 1-1.

Veteran cricketer Shakti Gauchan, Khem Sharma, CEO of EEVS Sanjeev Sharma, and Subash Pradhan were present on Tuesday’s event. 

Khem Sharma, Director of EEVS for Nepal, pointed out the importance of youth in the development of the nation. “Education and sports are something we can relate with youngsters. They help you grow physically and mentally. We are glad to be associated with cricket.” 

Likewise, CEO Sharma said: “We are very happy to contribute in Nepal’s most popular sports. We feel proud to help young players like Bhim Sarki, Pratish GC, Rit Gautam, and Kushal Malla representing the current national U-16 and U-19 teams through our school and college premier league programs.”

The foundation also awarded veteran cricketer Shakti Gauchan with token money of Rs 150,000 to help upgrade the Star Cricket Academy in Bhairahawa. It also announced that it would be hosting an annual sports journalism award along with a trophy and a cash-prize of Rs 50,000. The foundation plans to finalize the benchmarks and modality of the award.
