Kathmandu residents should be more involved in politics as well: Jeevan Ram

Jeevan Ram Shrestha, member of the House of Representatives has said that Kathmandu- residents should actively participate in politics as well. Speaking at the felicitation program organized by Kathmandu -Ward 19 branch committee of Nepal Rastriya Khadgi Samaj,  Shrestha stated that the natives of Kathmandu are rich in culture and tradition. Meanwhile, now it is the high time they participated in social and political activities more proactively.

According to Shrestha, non involvement of locals at policy making level is the main reason behind ineffective work in conservation and protection during renovation of cultural heritages. Shrestha said, “Cultural heritage is one of the major sources of tourism in the valley which has a direct link with the country’s economy. Therefore we must protect it.”

The program was organized to felicitate trainers   of Naya: Khi: Baja and also to certify the trainers participating in the two-month-long workshop that was organized from September 1. Central President of Nepal Rastriya Khadgi Samaj, Manbahadur Khadgi and Shrestha felicitated the trainers with Khaadaa and provided certificate to students.

Twenty- eight students participated in the event.  General Secretary of Nepal Rastriya Khadgi Samaj, Nanda Kishore Shahi said, “The ‘new generation’ is inclined towards western culture. So, programs of this nature should be organized more frequently. This would be more effective in promoting our culture.” Likewise, he expressed his happiness at seeing youths playing Naya: Khi: Baja.

The formal felicitation program was followed by cultural and musical programs. Different prominent singers from the Nepali music fraternity , namely  Suresh Manandar, Anjan Shrestha and others performed  at the event.
