KATHMANDU, Aug 8: After the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police started the investigation, the accused in the 100 kg gold smuggling case were remanded in custody on Monday. While they were in the custody of the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI), their remand was extended by the Patan High Court, the spokesperson of Nepal Police, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Kuber Kadayat said that remand has been extended for the first time by the Kathmandu District Court.
CIB has received permission from the Kathmandu District Court to detain them for seven days and investigate.

"Permission has been obtained for the investigation by extending the deadline for seven days, now the investigation team will study the case file and proceed with further investigation," said Spokesperson Kadayat.
The CIB appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Singh Thapa as the chief investigating officer and formed a team to investigate the gold smuggling case.
The CIB has started the investigation from today after understanding the facts and evidence including the case file received from the DRI on Sunday.
On Thursday, the CIB took charge of the investigation following the instructions of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. On July 19, the DRI recovered approximately 100 kilos of gold that had been concealed in 'brake shoes' of scooters and motorbikes in front of the customs office of Tribhuvan International Airport. The said gold has been kept at the Mint Division of Nepal Rastra Bank to ascertain the exact quantity.
