Kathford, K&K into semifinals

KATHMANDU, May 8: Kathford College and K&K advanced into the semifinals of Thames Inter-college T20 Cricket Tournament on Wednesday winning their respective matches at the Army ground, Bhaktapur.



Kathford defeated Nepal Commerce Campus (NCC) by 10 runs while K&K overcame Kathmandu College of Management and Information Technology (KCMIT) by six wickets. [break]



In the day´s first match, Kathford made 82 runs losing all wickets in 19 overs after being put into bat first and then bowled out NCC for 72 runs in 18 overs. Deepesh Basnet was the highest scorer for Kathford with 15 runs while Roshan Singh remained unbeaten on 10 runs. No other batsman could reach double figures.



Man-of-the-match Prabhat Pokharel of NCC claimed three wickets conceding just eight runs. Sambidhan Baidya also took three wickets giving away 22 runs in his four-over spell.



In reply, Suraj Ghimire scored the highest 27 runs for NCC while none of the other batsmen could reach double figures. Mahesh Jha, Roshan Singh and Deepesh Basnet of Kathford bagged two wickets each.



In another match, KCMIT was put into bat first and made 97 runs in 18.1 overs with Suraj Tamang smashing 50 runs off 45 balls. Manoj Rawal and Bikram Tiwari added 10 runs each. Aditya Nepal of K&K bagged three wickets while Abhishek Gupta and Anshaj Upadhyaya claimed two wickets each.



Chasing 98 runs for victory, K&K reached the target in 16.3 overs losing four wickets as man-of-the-match Anshaj Upadhyaya scored 34 runs. Abishek Gupta (20) and Saurav Khatiwada (9) were unbeaten. Badri Paneru contributed 16 runs.



The semifinal matches will be held on Wednesday with host Thames College taking on Campion and K&K locking horns with Kathford.
