Landslide triggered by incessant rainfall has affected three VDCs of Kaski -- Lumle, Bhadaure Tamagi and Dhikur Pokhari. The landslide debris which had obstructed the Pokhara-Baglung highway since Wednesday night wass cleared on Friday afternoon.The two deceased have been identified as Siyodhari Devkota, 81 and five-month-old Anjali Sherpa from Lumle VDC-6, informed DSP of Kaski Distric District Police Office, Kedar Rajaure.
"Bodies of Devkota and Sherpa were buried under the landslide," said DSP Rajaure.
According to DPO Kaski, the number of deceased in Lumle VDC-6 alone has reached 25. Likewise, five persons in Bhadaure Tamagi VDC and two in Dhikur Pokhari VDC were killed in the landslide.
Four persons from Bhadaure Tamagi VDC and three from Lumle VDC are missing in the landslide.
"We have been carrying out rescue efforts. We're still trying our best to search for the missing," DSP Rajaure told Republica. He added that excavators are being used to clear the debris.
Police suspect that the missing may have been washed away by the nearby river as they have already cleared the debris of houses that collapsed in the landslide.
According to locals, over a hundred security personnel from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Army (NA) were mobilized in the landslide hit areas. Rescue efforts were under way throughout Friday.
"We'll continue search and rescue efforts on Saturday also," said SP Hari Bahadur Pal. He informed that some of the families on Friday performed the last rites of their deceased en masse after police handed over the bodies to them.
