JUMLA, July 31: Transportation along the Karnali Highway, which remained closed due to landslides for the past four days, has resumed from today.

The highway was obstructed due to landslides triggered by rains at Kalekhola on the Kalikot road section since Sunday leaving dozens of vehicles stranded on the highway.

Chief District Officer Chandra Bahadur Karki told Republica Online that the light vehicles started plying the road since 11 am today.

"The highway has been resumed after the road engineers cleared the debris of the landslides. The heavy-loaded vehicles are expected to ply the road possibly from today evening," he said.

People in Karnali Province have criticized the government for not adopting long-term strategies to prevent the landslides along the Karnali Highway.

Moreover, people were irked by the price hike in daily consumable items after the highway remained closed.

According to CDO Karki, the local administration has mobilized security personnel in order to clear the remaining debris in the landslides-hit areas.
