Karnali highway closed for 36 hours; load bearing capacity of two concrete bridges along the highway being examined

KALIKOT, August 23: Karnali highway has been closed for 36 hours. Two concrete bridges built along the highway have been closed to check their load bearing capacity.


Officials said the load bearing capacity of the concrete bridges built on the Karnali River in Dailekh Athabis Municipality-5, Ghatte Khola and Narahari Nath Rural Municipality-8 in Kalikot will be checked. According to a notice issued by the Road Division Office, Jumla, the concrete bridge constructed at Ghatte Khola has been closed from 6AM today to check its load bearing capacity.

Ganesh Prasad Koirala, Administrative Officer of District Administration Office, Dailekh, said that two-way vehicular traffic along the highway has been closed until further notice. He also mentioned that the District Administration Offices of Kalikot, Surkhet, Jumla and Mugu have been informed about the closure of the Karnali Highway.


Chief District Officer of Kalikot Ram Hari Sharma said that the Karnali Highway is closed as the Road Division Office, Jumla had to carry out mandatory bridge testing.
