‘500 nudes’ is the series of drawings that contain different forms of human figures in terms of human day-to-day life activities, movements, and gestures. If you’re an art fanatic, 500 nudes by Kapil Mani Dixit is worth going exhibition.

The exhibition is curated by Manish Lal Shrestha. In the exhibition, Dixit made all the drawings including the naked state of both male and female gender. Dixit adds, “There’s no difference in genders when it comes to the beauty of the body. It’s just expressing the uniqueness of the human body.” 500 Nudes is Dixit’s 15th solo exhibition.

The artists of the nude drawings, Kapil Mani Dixit, shared that the naked state of the human body is beautiful. “We aren’t born with fabrics in our body rather we born in the purest form.  And when we depart from the world, the fire burns the ‘katro’ first and then the body.”

Aside from exhibiting, Dixit is selling the drawings too. In the place of sold drawings, there’s now a red dot. As asked the reason for putting the red dot in a place of sold drawings, Dixit replied, “It’s all about remembrance. I have met thousands of people and I don’t know whether they are alive or already deceased. Their faces and names are known for days and subsequently, it fades away. Also, in my exhibition, the red dot is a message to remind myself that ‘some drawing was there’.

It has been 20 years since Dixit has been working in the theme of nude. He believes the audience of nude art in Nepal is selective. “We cannot go anywhere except liberal places to exhibit nudes. Before exhibiting nude artworks, we must study the community and know about the place and people living there. For example, we cannot just show nude drawings opposite of the school gate.” To promote the figurative quality of naked art, Dixit hopes to take the exhibition to Pokhara.

Regardless, Dixit is hopeful that the perception of people toward nude arts will change. “It takes time but it’s not impossible,” Dixit adds.

The exhibition continues until March 7 at Gallery MCUBE, Mitra Road, Chakupat, Lalitpur.
