'Probably' the first woman scooter rider of Nepal honored

KATHMANDU, Mar 9: On the occasion of the 108th International Women’s day, MAW, Yamaha’s authorized distributor honored Kamala Shrestha, probably the first woman scooter rider of the country.

Since 1974 AD, Shrestha played an important role to champion woman’s rights, freedom and industrial development.  Shrestha was honored with a scooter.

“Daughter’s were not sent to school at that time”, Shrestha, an entrepreneur in cosmetics said adding that “time was the time was very challenging and society down upon women.”

During the program organized on Thursday, Shrestha shared her problem faced on past days. She stated, “There were different types of man, who were used to tease and discourages me. But my family members support me.”

Shrestha is the executive member of Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry, chairman of Women Entrepreneur Development Committee and Chairman Aesthetic Business Association Nepal.

Shrestha expressed that she felt freedom while driving Scooter. There are limiter motorbike and the rider where male. On that crowd I am a single woman to ride a scooter.

Yamaha organized the first time Scooter Day on March 7, Wednesday. On the occasion, the company washed all the scooters free of cost.
