KAILALI, Aug 8: The District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee of Kailali has mobilized volunteers to alert locals about the rising water levels of different rivers and rivulets in the district.


The committee has started this new practice to reduce the damages that might be caused by floods in the monsoon.


Eleven rivers in Kailali district are considered likely to cause water-induced disasters.

The siren system is installed only in Karnali and Mohana rivers, that is why locally-trained volunteers are mobilized to inspect and inform the authority about the flow of water, said Mohanraj Joshi, chief of the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee.


Chief District Officer Yagya Raj Bohara said volunteers have been mobilized to alert the locals about possible flood risks through which damages can be minimized.


In order to ensure safety from possible physical and human losses, 500 volunteers of Nepal Police, disaster rescue organizations from all 13 local levels, Nepal Red Cross Society have been mobilized in a coordinated way in areas near different rivers and rivulets, said Bohara.


According to Kailali Branch of Nepal Red Cross Society, relief supplies enough for 400 families are stored in Tikapur and Bhajani branches of Red Cross as preparation in advance.


The far-western provincial government said that they are ready to control epidemics that may spread after floods.
