‘Kaapa Creations’ is an initiative of Arti Lakhey and Anjee Lakhey. The duo has been producing bed sheets made from pure cotton since the past year from its factory in Thaiba, Godawari. They have been currently manufacturing bed sheets in three sizes: twin, queen and king sizes.

Explaining the drive towards establishing Kapaa Creations, co-owner Arti said, “We (the Lakhey family) come from a textile background. We’re looking to expand our family business. In the process, both of us left our jobs to try our luck in this field.”

Initially, the company had to go through a number of problems. At first, they neither had the space for storage nor trained human resources to execute their day-to-day activities. Anjee stated, “Our business is still in beginning phase. The budget constraints have kept us from opening our own shop, we hope to solve this problem by collaborating with other individuals or organization.” Nonetheless, despite the absence of a physical store, the company operates through social media and other online stores like decraftmandu.

At present, the company has five employees to take care of their production. They are responsible for completing all stages of manufacturing -- beginning from receiving the materials, to dyeing, printing, stitching and finally delivering.  The company believes that bedroom provides relief from the hectic schedules, and insists on including colors, and designs in the room.

Speaking about her experience of the past year, Anjee said, “Startup is a game of uncertainty consisting of financial losses or gains. It’s important that you don’t lose hope. Entrepreneurs need the gut to fight the challenges.”

The company is providing services in Kathmandu only, but the founders are planning to expand their venture in other districts as well.  Arti further revealed, “We want to promote our business abroad as well where people are keen on purchasing Nepali products.”
