Nine killed, five injured in Bajhang jeep accident

At least seven persons were killed while six others sustained injuries when a passenger jeep met with an accident in Bajhang district on Monday afternoon. The incident took place when the ill-fated jeep drove off the road and plunged down a mountainous slope at Masta rural municipality-1 in the district.

Nepali delegation off to China to discuss DPR of Kerung-Kathmandu Railway

The delegation led by Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Karki will hold talks with officials from the Chinese National Railway Authority in Beijing. The railway project is expected to enhance connectivity between Nepal and China. Discussions will revolve around preparing the DPR and investment modality of this multi-billion dollars project.

NC expresses solidarity with ongoing Guthi bill protests

The main opposition Nepali Congress on Monday expressed solidarity with ongoing protests against the Guthi bill while urging the government to withdraw the controversial bill immediately.NC lawmaker Dilendra Prasad Badu claimed that proposed Guthi bill was aimed at abolishing the country's unique cultural practices and social values. The much-talked-about bill on the management of lands belonging to Guthis (religious and social trusts) has courted controversy, with people from various walks of life in Kathmandu demanding its withdrawal.

It's too early to call SAARC unviable, says Bhutanese PM

Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering has said that it is too early to call the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) unviable. Bhutan is one of the eight member states of the regional bloc SAARC that was founded in 1985. The Bhutanese Prime Minister's remark comes at a time when the SAARC process is in limbo due to the hostile relationship between India and Pakistan over cross-border terrorism issues.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ishwar Pokhrel said that recent bombing attacks in Sri Lanka signalled that a new type of terrorism threat has arrived in South Asia. Pokhrel said that the government thinks it is very important to understand the complex phenomenon of terrorism in regional and national contexts. "We also think that we need to learn from the lessons and experiences of our friend around the world, on counter-terrorism," he said.

Triple suicide attack kills at least 30 in northeast Nigeria

At least 30 people have been killed in a triple suicide attack in northeast Nigeria. Three suicide bombers detonated explosives at Konduga village, 25km from Maiduguri, the state capital of Borno state, on Sunday night.
