Journalist Shrestha elected as ward chief

ILAM, July 2: A member of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) of Ilam branch, Thakur Shrestha has been elected as the ward chief of Ilam Municipality-5.

Shrestha of CPN-UML has defeated Padam Paudel of Nepali Congress (NC). Shrestha received 1,112 votes and Paudel got 1,046 votes.

Journalist Shrestha said that he had resigned from FNJ after he decided to take part in the local level elections.

He was working in daily newspaper Ilam Post and weekly Ilam Aawaz.  

After he won the elections as the Ward Chief, he said he will be working for the social, economic growth and cultural development of his ward.

Shrestha said, ‘‘I consider journalism a social work. Even though, I’m into politics, social work is what I’ll be doing.’’ 

He added, ‘‘I’ll not just fulfill the promises made during the election campaign but also move ahead for what’s necessary for the betterment of the ward.’’

Treasurer of FNJ Ilam, Jaya Rai has decided to take part in the election for the member of Suryodaya Municipality-5. Rai resigned from the FNJ and filed his name for the candidacy of ward member representing CPN-UML. Rai was working for Radio Fikkal F.M.
