Journalist fraternity calls for withdrawal of media council bill

DHANGADHI, June 22: The far-western level general assembly of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) concluded here today, calling for the withdrawal of the Media Council Bill.


In the declaration adopted following the general assembly concluded on Friday night, the fraternity of journalists demanded not to bring any policy and law to suppress press freedom and freedom of expression against the letter and spirit of the Nepal Constitution.

The general meeting also demanded the introduction of new communication policy and guarantee of professional and physical safety of journalists. Moreover, the journalists community called for the enforcement of minimum remuneration and establishment of institutional mechanisms such as Press Council, Department of Information in state level.


Journalists are also requested to fully comply with code of conduct, the declaration noted.
