Directed by John Matthew Matthan, the 1999 film featured Aamir Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sonali Bendre. 'Sarfarosh' chronicled the story of an Indian police officer's quest to stop cross-border terrorism.

Flash forward nine months later to May 2019, the alliance seems to have soured as the film's director John Matthew Matthan refused to accept that John Abraham was ever finalized as the film's protagonist. Reportedly, Matthan said that he never mentioned any other actor's name to the media. He accepted that they were in negotiation, but nothing materialised. Matthan also reportedly mentioned that he is currently giving finishing touches to the script.

John Abraham's spokesperson has also reportedly confirmed the development by accepting they were in talks but things did not work out between them.
