CHITWAN, July 1:  The jeep safari service at Chitwan National Park will be suspended from July 6, authorities said here.

32 jeeps from Sauraha, 15 from Bhimle and Kasar each, and seven jeeps from Amaltari enter the national park every day. These jeeps take tourists to Chitwan National Park for the safari. “With the beginning of the monsoon, it becomes very difficult to drive the jeep here”, said Bed Kumar Dhakal, the park’s chief conservation officer.

Each jeep should pay Rs 5000 while entering the national park area. Nepali citizens are charged Rs 150 for a tour while SAARC nationals pay 1000 and international tourists pay Rs 2000 for touring the park in a jeep.

Dhakal further stated that the jeep service will resume once the road is repaired. Tourism-based revenue is the National park’s biggest income source. By mid-June, 2019, the revenue collected by the national park stood at Rs.27 million. It is estimated that around 200,000 tourists visit the national park every year.
