Judicial Council recommends six candidates for the appointment of SC justices

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: A meeting of the Judicial Council (JC) held on Tuesday recommends six candidates for the vacant Supreme Court (SC) justices.

KATHMANDU, Nov 21: A meeting of the Judicial Council (JC) held on Tuesday recommends six candidates for the vacant Supreme Court (SC) justices.


The JC meeting held under the chair of Chief Justice and Chairman of the Judicial Council, Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, recommended six candidates including four High Court judges and two legal practitioners as justices of the apex court.

According to JC Spokesperson Man Bahadur Karki, the JC meeting recommended High Court judges Saranga Subedi, Mahesh Sharma Paudel, Tek Prasad Dhungana and Abdul Azid Muslim for the appointment of SC justices. Similarly, legal practitioners Balkrishna Dhakal and Sunil Pokharel have also been recommended as SC justices.


The post of seven justices at SC is currently lying vacant. With JC recommending the name of only six justices, the SC will still have one post vacant. The candidates for the post of SC justices will assume after Parliament Hearing Committee endorses their name following a hearing.
