JANAKPUR, March 4: Followers of the Hindu religion, who constitute a majority in Janakpur, celebrated one of their biggest festivals 'Holi' in the district on Saturday.
The festival was celebrated in the hill districts of the country on Thursday while it was celebrated in many other tarai districts on Friday. Janakpur, the capital of Province 2, celebrated the festival with much fervor on Saturday.
There is a reason why the festival is celebrated on a different day in Janakpur. According to Parmeshwar Kapari, chief of Maithali Department of Tribhuvan University, the celebration of Holi is determined as per the earth's rotation instead of following dates in Janakpur.
“Holi is not just about drinking alcohol and having fun, the festival is also about faith in Mithila community,” said Kapari, who is also vice-principal of the university.
