Lawmakers object to the new order of precedence for public office holders

Lawmakers expressed concern over the government’s recent rearrangement of the order of precedence for public office holders. The government had reviewed the order of precedence following disgruntlement on the part of provincial assembly speakers, deputy speakers, and chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities, and made the new order public on Thursday.  

NC lawmakers express concern over deteriorating health condition of Dr. KC

Lawmakers from the major opposition Nepali Congress have expressed concern over the deteriorating health condition of senior orthopedic surgeon Dr. Govinda KC. The opposition's lawmakers urged the government to implement agreements reached between the government and Dr. KC in the past.  Dr. KC is on his 16th fast-unto-death at Ilam.

President Gharti tables report on medical education bill in Parliament

A report on the National Medical Education draft bill was tabled in the House of Representatives for further discussion today, despite strong opposition from the Nepali Congress lawmakers. The report on the medical draft bill was sent back to the House of Representatives last week after the Parliament's Education and Health Committee endorsed it with the majority following a clause-wise discussion.

 

Taskforce formed to solve problems facing Koshi corridor transmission line

A task force has been formed under the coordination of Chief District Officer of Sunsari to solve the problems facing the Koshi corridor transmission line project in Dharan area. Construction of transmission line has been halted after a handful of issues raised by the Dharan sub-metropolis. The task force will submit the report to the Chief Minister of Province1, Sherdhan Rai within a week. 

Coal mine collapses in northern China, killing at least 21

Twenty-one coal miners were killed when a mine collapsed in northern China, state media reported Sunday. The disaster occurred Saturday in Shenmu in Shaanxi province in the heart of the country’s coal-mining belt, according to state TV and the Xinhua News Agency. Sixty-six other miners were rescued, the city government said in a statement.

Nepal registers consecutive wins in Women T20 Smash Cricket Tournament

Nepal registered its second consecutive victory in the match of the Women T20 Smash Cricket Tournament in Thailand on Sunday. Nepal defeated Malaysia by 6 wickets meeting the target of 62 runs posted by the rival in 16.2 overs with a loss of 4 wickets.
