KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Ira Rawat and Mayanka Rana have progressed to the semifinals of the girls’ singles section in the 1st National Open Lawn Tennis Tournament on Sunday.

In the matches held at Satdobato tennis court, Ira overcame Abhilasha Bista while Mayanka beat Ganga Sharma in straight sets.

Similarly, Samrakshak Bhusan Bajracharya, Renjan Lama, Santosh Khatri and Nabin Magar have advanced to the quarterfinals in the boys’ singles event. Likewise, Kamal Bhandari, Anil Shahi, Shree Ram Magar and Pranabh Khanal also booked their places in the boys’ singles last eight. In the matches held at Satdobato tennis court, Samrakshak, Renjan, Santosh and Nabin defeated Jeevan Ghimire, Subrat Basnet, Abhinabh Acharya and Mahesh Shrestha respectively.

Likewise, Kamal, Anil and Shree Ram overcame Raju Shrestha, Samyak Bhushan Bajracharya and Rohit Sunuwar while Pranabh was declared winner after his opponent retired hurt.

In the boys’ doubles event, the pairs of Kamal and Shree Ram; Atma Ram Karki and Santosh Khatri; Mahesh and Samrakshak; and Anil Shahi and Shakti Sharma progressed to the semifinals winning their respective matches.
