KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The Institute of Engineering (IOE) under Tribhuvan University (TU) has announced that admissions for the academic year 2023/2024 for undergraduate programs will be conducted at the previous fee rates, without any increase.
In a recent notice, the IOE stated that the entrance examination will be held on October 9, maintaining the existing fee structure. This means that students aspiring to enroll in engineering programs, including Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) and Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch), will be able to do so at the previous fee of Rs 318,000 at affiliated campuses of the university.

The time for filling out the entrance exam forms is scheduled for October 4, 5, and 6. Those who have already submitted their forms do not need to reapply.
Previously, the IOE had proposed a substantial fee increase from Rs 318,000 to Rs 775,000, which led to protests by students. Following the protests, the Dean's Office of the Institute of Engineering Studies withdrew the fee hike and established an 11-member committee chaired by Hariram Parajuli, an associate professor at Pulchowk Campus, to review the fee structure. The committee's recommendations, submitted on September 12, proposed setting the undergraduate fee at Rs 554,000.
In response to the fee dispute, the chiefs of Pulchowk, Thapathali, Purbanchal, and Paschimanchal engineering campuses issued a statement expressing their concerns about their ability to provide education at the previous fee level. As a result of the controversy over the fee, the entrance exam originally scheduled for September was postponed.
