KATHMANDU, April 6: Homeland Sports Club Nepal is set to organize the Kathmandu Open International Grand Master Chess Tournament from April 12. 

The organizers at a press meet held in Kathmandu on Thursday said that the tournament will conclude on April 17 and that they have a total amount of Rs 1 million as cash prize. 
Star players including the champions and former winners from a total of 15 countries will take part in the tournament, said the organizers. 

A total of 100 foreign players from the United States of America (USA), Australia, Spain, Russia, Israel, Azerbaijan, Romania, India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Belarus, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Vietnam and Kenya and 80 Nepalis will participate in the tournament. 

The tournament, which will be played in Swiss league format and will run for nine rounds, will feature 12 grand masters, 14 international masters, 10 FIDE masters and 10 candidate masters. Likewise, present and former national champions and Olympians will take part in the tournament, informed the organizers.

The winner of the tournament will take home Rs 208,030, while the top 20 players will be rewarded on the basis of their ratings. Also, the best players from each category will also be prized, said the organizers.
