KATHMANDU, May 11: The second season of Inter-provincial Prime Minister Cup, an annual one-day event being hosted by the Nepal Sports Council (NSC), will hit floors from May 27.

The three-week long cricket tournament will be played under slightly tweaked format of inter-provincial teams and three leading departmental teams--Armed Police Force, Nepal Police Club and Tribhuvan Army Club. All the matches will be played in Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground and Mulpani Cricket Ground.

Ten teams comprising seven provincial teams and three departmental teams are divided into two groups of five teams each. The match will be played in single round-robin format with top two teams from each group making it to the semifinals. The final will be played on June 11.

The winner of the tournament will bag a purse of Rs 2 million whereas the runner-up will get Rs 1 million. The selection of the squads will be made in a pre-determined center by the tournament management.

“A place for player selection will be assigned to each province to select the best squad possible to take part in one-day format match, which will give the players some exposure and experience for longer version of the game,” said Jagat Tamata, national cricket team head coach.

The tournament will mark the second season of Prime Minister Cup played last year where the final between Nepal Army Club and Nepal Police Club was washed away by rain midway through the match, and both teams were adjudged combined champions of the popular one-day league.

National cricket team all-rounder Sagar Pun was adjudged man of the series in the last edition. Kathmandu Cricket Training Center was managing partner for the last edition which was replaced by Nepalaya International Management Company for this term.

With the usual winning and runner-up prizes, the man of the series will get Rs 100,000. Similarly, the best batsman and the best bowler of the tournament will get Rs 50,000 each. One rising player will get Rs 15,000 and each man of the match will receive Rs 10,000.
