Because skin is a sensitive organ - especially that of your face, you should be careful while picking out products to use on it. Because everyone has a different type of skin with different issues, every skin has a specific requirement (from skincare) to settle those issues. Here, we have broken down a few skincare elements so that you know what ingredients your product should contain in order to get the results you are looking for.

Retinol
Prevents wrinkles, signs of ageing and acne
Retinol, also known as Vitamin A, is an essential ingredient for healthy skin. It can increase the buildup of collagen - which is the main structural protein found in skin, even out irregular skin tone or complexion and fight different signs of ageing including wrinkles. A lot of acne based skincare products also contains Retinol because of its acne fighting properties. Using Retinol or Retinol based products regularly can however dry out your skin so make sure you moisturize your skin properly while using Retinol.

Hyaluronic acid
Is good for moisturizing
Hyaluronic acid is a well-known humectant - element that attracts and retains water. So it's not surprising that this acid works wonderfully when it comes to moisturizing your skin. And keeping your skin well moisturized can maintain the healthiness, glow, elasticity and softness of your skin for a long time. An additional benefit to using Hyaluronic acid is that it does not have any fine prints - meaning, it can be used alongside other skin enhancing ingredients and products without the slightest bit of negative reaction.
Vitamin C
Makes your skin glow
The main upside to using Vitamin C or Vitamin C infused products on your skin is that because it is an antioxidant like Retinol, it helps during the collagen synthesis. More collagen production means your skin will become very glowy and your complexion and the spots on your skin will even out giving you smooth and glowing skin.  You should use eye creams and night creams that have a larger Vitamin C concentration - over 20 percent. It is also best apply Vitamin C at night, right before you head to bed.

Peptides
Firms your skin
Peptide is an ingredient every individual over the age of 30 should have in their skincare products as it slows down the effects and signs of ageing and wrinkles to a great extent. Peptide is known to aid the production of collagen, heal wounds quickly and lighten (and eventually remove) scars from your skin. This ingredient can also imitate the effects of Botox if it is used the right way. Additionally, scientists have recently concluded that peptides can be used to treat eczema too.

Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide
Works wonders on acne
Although Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide are two different ingredients, but we have grouped them together here because both of them are primarily known and used for their acne fighting properties. Because it is lipid-soluble, Salicylic Acid can seep into pores and clear them properly. It is also anti-inflammatory so you can use it on big cystic pimples to reduce them overnight. Benzoyl Peroxide is anti-bacterial so it prevents your skin from getting pimples in the first place.

Products professionals swear by for healthy skin

Simran Piya
I honestly think my moisturizer saves my skin and think everyone should start using this product at least once every day - especially people who wear makeup regularly. Using makeup - be it in a small or a large amount - damages your skin a lot. So, by using moisturizer you will revitalize your skin and it can also slow the signs of ageing.

The one skincare product I can’t do without is my toner. It’s an overlooked product that most people either think is unnecessary or don’t know how to use properly. Toner has a lot of benefits - it clears out your pores and helps your skin absorb your moisturizer (and other products like serums) better. But its most important perk is that it corrects and maintains the pH balance of your skin. Use it right after you cleanse your skin and before you apply a moisturizer.

I think using a cleanser is very important to have healthy and clear skin. Cleansing your skin right before bed will ensure that your skin is free of dirt, oil and makeup - if you use it - and you can head to head reassured that your skin is squeaky clean. I use a Cetaphil’s cleanser which is very gentle on my skin and leaves it feeling smooth and soft.

I have two skincare products that I can’t do without. The first is cleanser and the second is a moisturizer. I think using both of these every day is very important as one cleans your skin and the second nourishes it. I cleanse and moisturize my skin twice everyday - once in the morning and then at night. Although a lot of people avoid using moisturizers in the summer, it should be used all year round.
