KATHMANDU, Oct 4: US ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry has called on NCP senior leader Jhalanath Khanal at the latter’s residence in Dallu, Kathmandu on Friday.

During the meeting, ambassador Berry claimed that the Indo-Pacific Strategy introduced by the USA does not aim to create any military alliance.

The US ambassador met Khanal to inform the objectives of Indo-Pacific Strategy. Berry further stated that the US would not force Nepal to take sides since it as an independent country.

"It is neither a military alliance nor a political group, and more importantly we are not trying to drag Nepal into it," NCP leader Khanal, also the former prime minister, told Republica Online quoting Berry as saying.

According to Khanal, he replied Berry that Nepal will always remain neutral when it comes to such strategic partnerships. “We also discussed on various aspects regarding strengthening Nepal-US relations.”
