Indian foreign secretary Kwatra arriving today

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra is arriving in Kathmandu today on a two-day visit to Nepal at the invitation of Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Poudyal.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Indian foreign secretary would make an official visit to Nepal on February 13 and 14.

According to the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Secretary Kwatra is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu this morning.

During the visit, foreign secretaries duo Poudyal and Kwatra will discuss several aspects of multi-dimensional collaboration between Nepal and India.

They are also expected to discuss several issues of bilateral cooperation, including connectivity, power trade, agriculture, health and culture, the ministry said in a statement.

This is the first standalone visit of Kwatra to Nepal after he assumed the charge of foreign secretary of India.

According to the Indian External Affairs Ministry, the visit is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and the priority India attaches to its relations with Nepal under its 'Neighbourhood First' policy. Nepal and India have civilizational and historical relations.

Meanwhile, various infrastructure and cross-border connectivity projects accomplished with Indian assistance have further strengthened the bilateral collaboration between the two countries.

It is expected that the visit will create further opportunities to enhance the bilateral relations between Nepal and India to a new height.
