India's Independence Day observed

KATHMANDU, Aug 15: The 70th Independence Day of India was celebrated amid a public ceremony held in Kathmandu on Monday.

Ambassador of India to Nepal, Ranjit Rae hoisted India's national flag at Indian embassy in Kathmandu to mark the day. 

At the event, Ambassador Rae distributed cheques worth Rs 40 million and blankets to fourteen former Indian army, widows and dependents of deceased soldiers of Indian Armed Forces.

Books were donated to fifty-nine libraries, including those in the remote districts.

As many as forty ambulances and eight buses were gifted to various hospitals, non-profit charitable organizations and educational institutions of different districts.

The program also saw honouring of twelve artists (five Indian and seven Nepalese) who concluded a two-day “Ramayan Circuit Art Workshop” on 12th and 13th August, 2016 in Janakpur.

The Government of India has gifted 582 ambulances to various organizations across 73 districts in Nepal since 1994.

India has also so far gifted 114 buses to various educational and welfare institutions across 25 districts in Nepal.
