India gifts 36 ambulances, buses to organizations

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: India has donated 30 ambulances and six buses to various hospitals, non-profit charity organizations and educational institutions of different districts in Nepal on the occasion of 69th Republic Day of India.

Indian ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri presented the vehicles to the representatives of those institutions amidst a special function held at the Embassy in Kathmandu on Friday. According to a press statement issued by the Embassy, India has gifted 662 ambulances and 130 buses to various organizations across Nepal to expand access to healthcare and educational services in Nepal since 1994. 

The Embassy also announced book grant to 41 educational institutions and libraries across Nepal to provide educational material to students in remote areas.

Ambassador Puri also felicitated 7 widows, 4 next of kin of deceased soldiers and 1 disabled soldier of Indian Armed Forces by distributing their dues worth Rs 41.4 million and a blanket to each, according to the statement. 

The 69th Republic Day celebration also coincides with 70 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Nepal. The event was attended by over 1500 guests, including senior political leaders, public personalities as well as prominent Indian and Nepali citizens. Rishi Inc., a cultural troupe from India sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi performed at the reception.
