Incessant downpour wreaks havoc across nation; 12 killed, 2 missing

KATHMANDU, July 26:  The incessant downpour since Monday night has wreaked havoc across the nation, killing at least 12 people.

Five people were buried to death in the rain-induced landslides in Gulmi.

According to RSS, 62-year-old Kalika Darji, 49-year-old Tulasa Darji and 19-year-old Asmita Darji of the same family were killed in Hastichaur VDC of Gulmi district.

Similarly, Suman Rana, 8, Simana Rana, 6, were buried to death, according to SP Bhola Rawal of District Police Office, Gulmi. 

Similarly, Bishunu Saru of Hastichaur has sustained injuries in the landside.

The rescue work has been affected as the landslide above the house of the Rana family is still continuing, said police.

Likewise, three people of the same family were killed after a landslide struck their house in Bhimphedi VDC- 5 in Makawanpur district last night.

The deceased have been identified as Rumba Lama, 25, his wife Parwati Rumba Lama, 23, and their five-year-old son Bikash Rumba Lama, RSS quoted District Police Office as saying.  

Likewise, Shova Rijal was killed after her house collapsed due to landslide in Lung VDC-6 of Pyuthan district. The body of around 13-year-old girl has been recovered from below the Bagdula bridge. Similarly, an unidentified body bas has been found on the bank of the Jhimruk rivulet near the Karkidanda bridge.

Another unclaimed body has been found below the Khaira Suspension bridge according to Sub Inspector Rajeet Singh Rathor.

Similarly, Kali BK and Pabitra BK have gone missing after their rented house was swept away by the landslide in Lung VDC-6.

Over a dozen houses have been damaged in Khawang, Rajwara and Arkha VDCs so far. But there have been no reports of human casualties so far. RSS
