KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Keeping up the long-run tradition, a bull-fighting festival was held in Taruka of Nuwakot district on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti (Magh 1st) on Thursday.

Of the four places where 31 pairs of bulls had their fights on the auspicious occasion, Taruka is the most popular spot for the celebration of the festival where 17 pairs of oxen locked their horns this year, according to the organizing group.

A large crowd was formed in Taruka despite the COVID-19 pandemic to witness the adventure sport.

In the century-long tradition of bull-fighting in Taruka, the villagers field their well-fed and well-tended oxen. The owner of the winning pair is also awarded during the festival attended by hundreds of audiences.
