In lack of elbow room, Nepal Forensic Science Laboratory's works affected

KATHMANDU, July 22: In lack of own building or adequate space in the existing place, the staffers working at the Nepal Forensic Science Laboratory have grieved that they works were directly affected.

The staffers are lacking adequate space to work in the Laboratory that was set up for analyzing and testing of physical evidence on the quest of truth said Laboratory's Officiating Executive Director Birendra Raj Shakya. Shakya informed that although the government had recruited a required number of human resources for the Laboratory, there is scant space for the new staffers to work in a favorable environment.

The Laboratory which is an autonomous organization is running under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology assist in making crime investigation scientific and evidence-based.

Shakya added that they have already demanded with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology a land and a building of its own to work without having to worry about spaces to house necessary equipment and tools and provide elbow room for the staffers.

 He said, "We will build our own building once we get land from the government." Currently, the Laboratory provides forensic services as fingerprint identification, determining the amount of alcohol in blood and DNA check.
