In defence of so called SPOILED BRATS

In defence of so called SPOILED BRATS

How often do we hear about children being irresponsible and spoiled? The answers are probably between very often and always.

Teachers articulately and eloquently narrate how children are spoiled these days. How they don’t care about the cultures and traditions, hard work, and thus are thoroughly ungrateful. They don’t know about real life, don’t care about other humans, and can’t empathize. The list goes on and on.
Since the young generation has been demonized and vilified, they’re called spoiled brats. This article will try to explain why it is so and if it is fair to call them such.

Children are messy and complicated. Especially after they hit puberty, they are vulnerable, emotionally fragile, dissident and most importantly impressionable. They are well informed because of advancements in education, media, and progress in general.

But this particular generation seems to be substantially well informed and non-conforming than previous generations. The reason behind this is primarily the internet.

Thanks to the internet, this generation knows how to access information throughout the world.  Children from third world countries have explored the world, chatted with people from all over the world and have developed a deep understanding of the world.

There comes a time in every person’s life when they begin to develop a thirst for knowledge. They are filled with awe, wonder and curiosity about the environment around them. Most of them seem to turn to their teachers and ask them questions that have been lurking in their minds. But their questions are generally left unanswered because the answers are reluctant to come out due to the delicacy of the topic he/she is trying to discuss about.

When distraught and dejected, they turn to the internet for answers. The internet opens a door to a whole new interesting and fascinating world. A world where they would get answers to anything they asked.

It’s excruciating to watch teachers not giving the answers of the questions they are asked about in front of the class. Since it’s a monopoly, they’re not going anywhere and the students, bored by their tantrums, simply lose interest on them and studies related to their subjects.

The glorification of corporal punishment and intimidation techniques has led to children having their self-esteem and self-confidence destroyed irrevocably for making a silly mistake. This climate of fear forces the children to take refuge on their phone or with other friends.

Teachers are often inarticulate on class and fail to get their point across. It isn’t uncommon for them to come unprepared for a lecture and randomly and incomprehensibly throw their points across to the audience. Often a teacher is quite uncharismatic, incomprehensible and incompetent.

The current generation, exposed to a diverse range of ideas is perhaps the most sophisticated generation ever. Filled with a rage to live and inspired by their role models, they would tear down things that come in their ways.

However, when the reality of living a third world country, corporal punishment, and lack of money kicks in, the students feel discouraged and don’t want to participate in academic discussions which they find to be obsolete and lagging.

Ignorance is truly bliss. Nothing is more hurtful and revolting than when the education you’re receiving is unremarkable and unhelpful. All of these reasons have swayed the young impressionable, dissident kids away from the school into a vile subversive culture.  A culture, even if objectively bad, is still more comforting contrasting the school.

In conclusion, the young generation often finds itself lost, alone and misunderstood. Demonizing and attacking them will only push them further to the insanity. What they need is better schools, persuasive and captivating teachers, and a little bit more encouragement & a couple of forward pushes.
